The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex, Peren on 15th August 2025, with the Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, S. Toiho Yeptho, gracing the occasion as the Special Guest.
On his arrival, Yeptho hoisted the National Flag, inspected the ceremonial parade and delivered the Independence Day speech. The day began with the hoisting of the National Flag at all government offices, institutions, and residences across the district.
The ceremonial parade, reviewed by the Superintendent of Police, Peren, featured contingents from DEF Peren, 9 NAP (IR) Saijang, Sainik School Punglwa, BHSS Peren, GHSS Peren, All Saints Higher Secondary School Peren, Peren Government College, and JNV Jalukie. The parade was commanded by Ngimchule Nampeung, NPS, SDPO Jalukie, with Toviho Sema, ABI (DEF Peren) as Second-in-Command, and Dibam Domta, ABI (DEF Peren) as Platoon Commander.
As part of the celebrations, the Deputy Speaker gave away the District Commendation Awards in recognition of outstanding work ethics, exceptional dedication, and commitment to excellence to the following recipients: Ibotui, Assistant Horticulture Officer, Peren; Hamia, Assistant Fishery Inspector, Peren; and Bony Zeliang, LDA, ADC Office, Tening.
The ATMA Best Farmer Awards were conferred to David Hangsing, Saijang Village for Ginger Cultivation; N.G. John Z, Jalukiekam Village for Banana Cultivation; Izibeule Hegui, Ngwalwa Village for Integrated Farming System; and Liudale Zeliang, Nkialwa Village for Piggery Farming
The ATMA Best SHGs Awards went to: Donsu SHG, Jalukie B Village for Oyster Mushroom Production, and Kesamtei SHG, Old Tesen Village for Organic Farming.
Cultural presentations featured vibrant performances by the Kezanglwa Village Youth Organisation and the Rooted Liangmai, a special presentation by the Differently Abled People’s Organisation (DAPO), Peren, and a Pipe Band display by the 9 Assam Rifles, Jalukie. Yeptho also inaugurated exhibition stalls set up by various government departments and Self-Help Groups.
As part of the outreach programme, visits were made to the Sub Jail, Peren by the IRCS, Peren; the District Hospital, Peren by the DHEW, Peren; and the Children’s Home, Peren by the 9 Assam Rifles, Jalukie. These visits facilitated interactions with inmates, patients, and residents.
Meanwhile in Jalukie town the 79th Independence Day was celebrated at the Government Higher Secondary School Ground, with Advisor for Food and Civil Supplies & Legal Metrology, K. Tokugha Sukhalu as the Special Guest.
The district-wide celebrations concluded with the ceremonial retreat by DEF Peren.
