President of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), and Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr. Neiphiu Rio, chaired a meeting at the NOA Office, Kohima, on 4th August 2025 to review ongoing sports initiatives and discuss key upcoming events that will shape the future of sports in the region.

During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the 39th National Games, to be hosted by Meghalaya in February 2027.  Nagaland has formally proposed to co-host the Wrestling discipline, showcasing its growing expertise and structure in combat sports.

The President also reviewed plans for the next edition of the North East Games, which was scheduled in October 2025 but has now been postponed to early 2026, to be hosted by Tripura.

Preparedness to host the UWW Alysh Belt Wrestling & Naga Wrestling World Championship, scheduled from 15th to 23rd November 2025 and the 1st edition of Dr. T. Ao Junior (Girls) National Football Championship are also discussed in detail.

The President also inspected the near-completion of the NOA gym facility. Recruitment advertisements have been issued for the positions of Gym Instructor,    Multi-Task Assistant and Cleaner. The facility is expected to be operational soon.

Dr. Rio expressed his continued commitment to strengthening Nagaland’s sports ecosystem and positioning the state as a key contributor to national and international sporting events.
