An Awareness program on Employees State Insurance Scheme (ESI) cum free medical camp and registration drive was held at Hotel ACACIA Dimpaur on 12th August 2025. The program was organised by the Department of Labour in collaboration with ESIC Regional Office, Guwahati.

The Employees State Insurance Scheme is an integrated measure of social insurance embodied in the employees state insurance act and it is designed to accomplish the task of protecting employees as defined in the employees state insurance act 1948 against the impact of the incidences of sickness, maternity, disablement and death due to employment injury and to provide medical care to insured person and their families.

The scheme applies to factories and other establishments such as hotels, restaurant, road transport, cinemas, newspaper, shop, educational/medical institutions where more than 20 persons are employed. Employees of the aforesaid categories of factories and establishment, drawing wages upto ₹21,000/- and ₹25,000 in case of persons with disabilities in a month are applicable for the scheme.

The ESI scheme is financed by contributions from the employers and employees 3.25% and 0.75% respectively of the wages payable to employees.

Avile Vitso, Additional Commissioner, Labour Department CEO ESI Scheme Nagaland, while addressing the gathering said that SPREE 2025 is a one-time special initiative by ESIC to encourage self registration of unregistered employers and those who have not registered all eligible employees with ESIC. The duration of the SPREE is from 1st July to 31st Dec 2025. She also highlighted the benefits of the scheme.

Pranay Sinha, Zonal Insurance Commissioner, NE Zone also gave a brief history and functions of the ESIS.

Ahtesham, Deputy Director Co-ordination & Implementation also gave the presentation on ESIC. Welcome address was delivered by Robert L. Guite.
