The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on 15th August 2025. On the occasion, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, hoisted the Indian National Flag and delivered the Republic Day Speech.
The Republic Parade Contingents was led by Tizhisie Pojar, NPS, SDPO (Hq) as the Parade Commander while 2nd in Command was ABI Tekatemjen SM RHQ, DEF, Mokokchung. The Parade Contingent includes DEF Mokokchung, 2nd NAP Battalion, 13th NAP (IR) Battalion, Home Guards and Civil Defence, Ex – Servicemen, NCC Fazl Ali College, NCC Mayangnokcha GHSS, NCC GHS Dilong, Bharat Scout & Guides Queen Mary HSS, Bharat Scout & Guides Mayangnokcha GHSS, GMS, Bharat Scout & Guides ImrongUngma and 2nd NAP Battalion Pipe Band.
In recognition for their commendable service to the people, 9 individuals were felicitated with the District Award. The awardees were Temsumeren, Dobashi II (District Administration), Opangnenla Jamir, LDA (SP Office), Imsenkala, MTS (Agriculture), John Ato Kips, LDA/CA (CMO), Lanutoshi, HA (MCTE), Mayangkala Ao, ABSI (SP Office), Shiluwati, Forester-1 (DFO) and Taliwati, MTS (District Administration).
Showcasing the diversity and unity of the nation, cultural items were presented by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Union, Mokokchung represented by Konyak Union, Mokokchung and Laxmi Narayan Gritan Mandal, Mokokchung. Entertaining the gathering, Band display from the 12 Assam Rifles and a Tug of War match was contested between the HoOs and MMC. Exhibition Stall set-up by various departments was also inaugurated by the Chief Guest.
Later in the day, an exhibition Football match and Penalty Shootout (Ladies) was played between Agri & Allied and Technical Vs rest of the Departments.
