A farewell programme was held at the Rhododendron Hall of the Police Complex, Chümoukedima in honour of Kevithuto Sophie IPS, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Dimapur on 7th August 2025,. Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, spoke about the close coordination he shared with the CP over the past one year and nine months. He described Sophie as a guardian of law and order and appreciated his courage, discipline, and clear vision in handling complex issues. He also credited Sophie’s support and leadership in the successful conduct of the Lok Sabha and DMC elections in the district.
Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, Poland John, NCS, expressed his appreciation for the outgoing Commissioner of Police, noting the excellent coordination between the police and civil administration under Sophie’s leadership. He remarked that the Commissionerate had seen a marked improvement in police performance and attributed this to Sophie’s deep knowledge of crime control and proactive approach to law enforcement. He also acknowledged Sophie’s personal guidance in handling sensitive situations, adding that his presence would be deeply missed, especially in Chümoukedima.
Representing the Commissionerate Police Force, DCP Niuland, Manish Bharatiya, IPS, described Sophie as a disciplined, calm, and visionary leader who guided his team through difficult times. He highlighted several achievements during Sophie’s tenure, including a significant drop in road accidents, the peaceful conduct of three major elections, and the implementation of the Auto Rickshaw Display Card system. He also noted major crime-related accomplishments, including the seizure of narcotics and arms worth ₹12 crores.
Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, Sara S. Jamir, recalled Sophie’s unwavering support to the district administration. She described him as a mentor and motivator who gave
confidence to those around him through his calmness and quick response to challenges. She also noted his contribution in tackling illegal immigration-related issues in the district.
In his farewell speech, Kevithuto Sophie thanked his colleagues, stakeholders, the public, and the media for their cooperation throughout his tenure. He urged everyone to perform their duties sincerely and remain free of biases or divisions. Referring to the “-isms” as a serious problem plaguing society, he called on everyone to work together with integrity.
Sophie also raised concern over the extortion menace in Dimapur, pointing out that it was driving businesses out of the city. He stressed the need for society to collectively acknowledge and tackle the issue before it worsens. Addressing the media, he requested responsible and fact-based journalism, and encouraged constructive criticism. He ended his remarks by urging all stakeholders to support the new Commissioner of Police with the same unity and spirit.
The event was chaired by Y. Ruth Muru, NPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (HQ), who welcomed the gathering, followed by an invocation prayer by Rakhu Levi, Pastor, PBC Dimapur. The programme concluded with a benediction prayer by Nukshila Aying Doulo, Women Pastor, PBC Dimapur.
The programme was attended by officers from various ranks, district administrators, members of civil society organisations, and representatives from different departments, reflecting the wide-reaching respect Sophie earned during his tenure.
