The Yimkhiung Union of Kohima celebrated Metümnyo Festival at Botanical Garden, New Minister's Hill, Kohima on 8th August 2025.
President of the Yimkhiung Union Kohima, Akum shared in brief the significance of the festival, that Metümnyo consists of three words- ‘Me’ meaning spirit or soul, ‘Dum’ meaning wrap, and ‘Neo’ meaning feast.
The Metümnyo Festival is celebrated after the millet crop is harvested thus honoring both life and death, and the souls of the departed, praying for bountiful harvests, and celebrating communal unity.
A short speech was delivered by YTC Finance Secretary, Yinkiu, where he said that the festival’s role is to foster unity, strengthen bonds, renew hope and share prosperity. He also emphasized on the usage of the right spelling for Metümnyo.
The Welcome address was presented by YUK Vice President, Topong while the vote of thanks was proposed by the General Secretary of YUK, Kiutan Simon.
