Joining the rest of the state, the Mangkolemba Subdivision, Mokokchung marked the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the public ground, Mangkolemba, with Naiba Konyak, MLA and Chairman of SDPDB Tobu, as the special guest.
Konyak hoisted the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute, and delivered the Independence Day address. The National Anthem was rendered by students of Baptist Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Mangkolemba.
A total of six parade contingents participated in the march past, led by the 2nd NAP ‘E’ Coy, Tzutapela. Participants included students from Government Higher Secondary School, Baptist Higher Secondary School, Saint Andrew’s School, and New Model College.
Following the formal programme, exhibition stalls set up by various government departments were inaugurated by the Special Guest. The day concluded with an exhibition match between officers and the Mangkolemba Town Council, along with an inter-ward tug-of-war competition.
