Along with the rest of the country, Shamator district celebrated the 79th Independence Day with Advisor, Youth Resource and Sports, S. Keoshu Yimchunger as the Chief Guest.
Keoshu hoisted the National Flag and the Pipe band from 43rd AR. Shamator Battalion played the magestic National Anthem, which was then followed by inspection of parade contingents.
The Chief Guest delivered the Independence Day speech, followed by March past.
The parade contingents included the DEF Shamator; Assam Rifles; Village Guard Shamator ; Shamator college NCC; GHS Shamator; Christian High School boys and girls; and St. Xavier School boys and girls.
The District Commendation Awards were given to Power Department Shamator, Athrong, SDO (C) Shamator HQ; Dr. Ezra Anar, Dental Surgeon CHC Shamato; S. Tomukam, G/T, GMS Leangkonger Village; and W. Tsukhumla Yimchunger, LDA, DC Office Shamator. It was followed presentation of Progressive Farmers’ Award to Longkhangba from Yakor Village and Tsükhümla from Kuthur Village.
The Chief Guest also gave trucks to four educated unemployed youths namely Kirimong T. Yim. (Mahindra pickup), T. Kheapong (TATA Yodha), Supila Yimchunger (Mahindra pickup 4x4), and T. Lakiumong (Mahindra pickup 4x4) so as to create alternative employment.
Special items were presented by Teri Mitti Brothers, Girls Rosy & Hanlu, and cultural presentation by Mongtsuwong Cultural Society, Lunsoberu Club, Wongphong Peilo Areihlu, Sumi Cultural Troupe followed by inauguration and inspection of the exhibition stalls by the Chief Guest.
The Nasha Mukti Pledge was also administered by the Special Guest.
The Independence Day was also marked by a football exhibition match between Shamator Town Public Forum XI and Shamator Town students union XI, followed by Beating of Retreat.
