Dimapur District celebrated the 79th Indian Independence Day with Minister for Roads & Bridges, G. Kaito Aye, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, hoisted the National Flag on 15th August 2025 at the DDSC Stadium, Dimapur.
The event began with a parade review by the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur. The celebration featured an inspection of the parade and address by the Chief Guest. The march past parade was commanded by Imkongsangba Jamir, NPS, Assistant Commissioner of Police (East), Dimapur, with Neichuzo Rio (ABI, CP Dimapur) as Parade 2 i/c and Havildar Khekato Sema from the Police Commissionerate, Dimapur, as Parade BHM.
The sequence of parade contingents included units from the Police Commissionerate, Dimapur, 11th NAP (IR) Battalion, Home Guard Civil Defense & SDRF, SEFTI (Forest Guard), and the Ex-Servicemen contingent.
Educational institutions also participated with pride, including NCC, Dimapur Govt. College. Govt. Higher Secondary School, Nagarjan, PM Shri Government High School, Burma Camp, Bethesda Higher Secondary School, and Zakiesato Memorial Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. The 15th Assam Rifles Band Platoon, led by RR Debbarma, added ceremonial grandeur to the event.
The presentation of awards to female achievers under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, recognized outstanding female achievers in academics and sports. The awards were presented under the visionary guidance of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Department of Social Welfare, and Mission Shakti, to encourage and honour young women excelling in their fields.
In academics, top scorers of HSLC and HSSLC examinations from both government and private schools were felicitated. The awardees included Veineiling (HSSLC–Arts) and Parvina Khatun (HSLC) from Government Higher Secondary School, Lengrijan and Government Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, respectively. From private institutions, Lungshiyang Nirhu (HSLC) of St. Paul Higher Secondary School and Wattula Imchen (HSLC) of Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, received the honours.
In sports, SeyiekhrienoTepa was recognized for winning gold, silver, and bronze medals between 2023 and 2025 in various South Asia Sepaktakraw Championships and the Sepaktakraw World Cup Championship at both national and international levels. Hinokali was honoured for her achievements from 2020 to 2025, securing medals in the 9th Asia Pencak Silat Championship and the National Pencak Silat Championship at national and international stages.
The cultural performances included a patriotic song by GHSS Lengrijan, patriotic dances by Christian Higher Secondary School and Sargam Cultural Association, and a traditional folk dance by the Zeliang cultural troupe.
The Chief Guest also inaugurated stalls at the venue set up by the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, District Industries Centre, DRDA Dimapur, Nagaland Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation (NHHDC), Dimul, Department of Co-operation, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA), District Hub for Empowerment of Women, (DHEW), Department of Health & Family Welfare (CMO Dimapur) and Food Safety Cell.
In the afternoon, prizes were distributed and the celebrations concluded with the Retreat Ceremony conducted by the 15 Assam Rifles.
