The Department of Social Welfare, Meluri organised International Older Person's Day at Village Council Hall Meluri, on 1st October 2025, with the Theme " Older Person's Driving Local and Global Action: Our Inspirations Our Well Being, Our Rights."

Deputy Commissioner, Meluri, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, expressed his happiness and appreciation for seeing a huge number of elderly people present at the programme. He said older people are a blessing for Society as they offer society a wealth of accumulated experiences and wisdom. They give constructive advice based on lifetime of diverse experiences. Older person lived experiences and stories, help preserve cultural heritage and provide essential context for the younger generation. He wished the elderly people to live a long and healthy life.

The occasion was marked by awarding District level Distinguished Personality to Rev. T. Kachüsie Phoji and T. Machü Joshua.

Earlier, Vijirho Nyuthe supervisor delivered the welcome address. Nyuletho Nyuthe spoke on behalf of elderly persons of Meluri, while Sr. Supervisor, Watsûsie pronounced the vote of thanks.

The programme was attended by elderly people of Meluri, Anganwati workers & helpers and public leaders of Meluri. The programme was chaired by Thorhosie Kajiri, CDPO I/C DPO.
