Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) in collaboration with the District Child protection Unit, Tuensang organized a one-day awareness programme on Child Rights & Child protection at Chang Khuli Setshang Hall, Tuensang on 7th October 2025.

Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, NCS, in her address exhorted the gathering on child rights and protection and pointed out that every child is special and it is their responsibility to protect and ensure due care for their upcoming progress without discrimination or abuse them in all areas. Unreported family abuse cases are inherent in all communities and should be eradicated at the earliest, she said. Rutsa appealed the elders, public leaders, NGOs, students’ organization and parents to adhere to Child Rights and child protection to the fullest in the District. She also acknowledged and extended her appreciation to all the participants for attending the awareness programme.

Guest resource speakers were Legal Consultant NSCPCR, Lichani Murry, Member NSCPCR, Akumla Longchari and Member NSCPCR, Aying Wangsha spoke on The Juvenile Justice Act highlighting on Adoption Rules, Understanding and strengthening the POCSO Act towards a safer Future for Children and Rights of Children with regard to Education vis-a-vis Right to Education with emphasis on Child Labour.

Key note address was delivered by Secretary Social Welfare and Secretary NSCPCR, Yongchingkumla, NCS. Project Coordinator, Hongen Thangty Chang chaired the program.

A brief report on Child related cases in the District was delivered by DCPO Tuensang, Yangtriba Sangtam. Open Discussion on Child Rights and Child protection was also held with the participants in order to enhance the importance of the awareness programme.
