Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar, IAS held a press conference at the DC Office, Wokha, on 18th Oct. 2025 to share updates on the upcoming 1st Banana Festival 2025, scheduled to take place from October 22 to 24 at the Public Ground, Wokha.
The festival is being organized by the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha and various line departments. It forms a key initiative under the Five-Year Vision Document, previously launched in the presence of Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh.
The event will be graced by Deputy Chief Minister, T.R. Zeliang as the Special Guest, with Deputy Chief Minister, Y. Patton serving as the Chief Host.
Highlighting the purpose of the festival, DC Kumar emphasized that it is “not just a celebration,” but a strategic platform aimed at empowering over 6,000 farmers, facilitating market linkages, and promoting scientific farming practices and value addition. He expressed optimism that Wokha could emerge as a key hub for banana cultivation and other agricultural products.
The festival is being jointly organized by ICAR–KVK Wokha, with support from institutions such as NABARD, Central Institute of Horticulture, Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, and over 30 organizations from across India and Nagaland.
The key highlights of the three-day event include: Over 100 stalls showcasing banana by-products, farming innovations, and agricultural exhibits. Technical sessions for farmers to engage with experts and dignitaries, and Interactive activities such as banana-eating competitions and a “Best Banana Bunch” contest to celebrate local banana diversity.
The Deputy Commissioner also extended a warm invitation to the public to attend the festival, support local farmers, and contribute to the success of this landmark event.
