The state-level launch of Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 was held on 17th September 2025 at Old NST, Kohima, with Special Guest, MLA and Chairperson of the NLA Committee on Environment & Climate Change, Achumbemo Kikon, formally launching the program in the state and led the pledge taking.
Kikon emphasized that cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility. He called for collective efforts in waste segregation, environmental awareness, and personal hygiene, highlighting that true cleanliness complements spiritual and moral values. He stressed the importance of segregating dry and wet waste, converting waste into wealth, and taking individual responsibility rather than blaming the government. Kikon urged Kohima residents, traders, and the municipal council to cooperate in making the city clean and beautiful, drawing comparisons with Indore and Switzerland.
Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 is a nationwide cleanliness campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission, aimed at promoting public participation in maintaining hygiene and environmental sustainability. Running until 2nd October, Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, the campaign encourages citizens, government bodies, and organizations to engage in activities like waste segregation, cleaning public spaces, and spreading awareness about personal and community hygiene. It emphasizes individual responsibility in keeping surroundings clean, transforming waste into wealth, and building a cleaner, healthier India.
Chief Executive Officer, KMC, Zapuno Sophie chaired the program, while Mission Director, SBM-Urban 2.0, Kezhochole Rhetso, provided the context and objectives of the program. Moko Koza presented a special song.
Advisor, School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome; Advisor, Geology & Mining, DUDA, W Chingang Konyak; Superintendent of Police Kohima, Krodi Rhetso; councillors from KMC, government officials, students, sanitation workers, and others attended the program. They also participated in mass social work following the formal launch.
